FAQ

How do Deeper smart sonars work?

Deeper smart sonars have been designed to be as simple and quick to use as possible. Just attach the device to a fishing-line and put it in the water; this will switch the device on. Then cast it to the spot you want to scan, and your Deeper does the rest. It will automatically transmit detailed data of the depth, temperature, vegetation and structure of the water. And best of all, it will show you where the fish are hiding. The Deeper app has modes suitable for shore, boat and ice fishing; just chose the mode that’s best for you and get fishing.

Where can I buy a Deeper smart sonar?

We work with local and online retailers in over 50 countries worldwide. To find online stores and shops in your region which sell our products, just go to the “Where to buy” section of this website.

Will my Deeper smart sonar work with my smartphone or tablet?

Your Deeper smart sonar, whether it’s a Fishfinder 3.0, Pro or Pro+, will work with any Apple device that has iOS 8.0 operating system or higher, and with any Android device with 4 operating system or higher. If you’re not sure, just head to iTunes or Google Play to see whether the Deeper app is compatible with your device. If yes, then your Deeper smart sonar is compatible too.

Who are these devices suitable for?

Deeper smart sonars have been designed for professionals and enthusiasts alike. And the app has shore, boat and ice fishing modes, meaning whatever type of angler you are, a Deeper smart sonar will enhance your fishing experience. They are suitable for any ages; because of the smart technology incorporated, we recommend that under 13s be supervised when using a Deeper smart sonar.

Is there anywhere my Deeper smart sonar won’t work?

No. It doesn’t matter which country you are in, or whether you have a phone or internet connection or not, your Deeper smart sonar will work. That’s because it doesn’t need a mobile network or internet connection for the product to work. Providing you can install our app on your Android or Apple device, your smart sonar will work wherever you are.

Can I use my Deeper smart sonar for Ice Fishing?

Yes, you can. All Deeper smart sonars have been specifically engineered for ice fishing use, and there is an ice fishing mode on the app. The specially designed durable casing has been ruggedized to withstand harsh conditions, enabling Deeper smart sonars to operate perfectly in temperatures as low as -4 F / – 20 C. For ice-fishing, select ice fishing mode on the Deeper App.

Are there any accessories available?

Yes, there are a range of accessories for different styles of fishing. For shore anglers, the smartphone mount is a great option for mounting your smartphone to your rod, keeping your hands free for casting. For boat fishers, the Flexible Arm lets you mount your smart sonar to your kayak or boat, so it can constantly take readings while you paddle; perfect for bathymetric mapping. And the Night Cover is great for night fishing and low visibility conditions.

Is Deeper resistant to water and shocks?

Yes, it is. Deeper has been designed for extensive outdoor use in a range of conditions and climates. It is ruggedized, so it can withstand bumps and bashes, and water resistant to a depth of 1 meter.

Do I need to have two rods to cast my Deeper smart sonar?

No, you only need one rod. Some anglers choose to fish with two rods while using their Deeper smart sonar – with one rod they cast out their Deeper and use it to monitor underwater activity, and with the other rod they cast their bate or jig.

Why does my Deeper smart sonar come with two bolts?

One of the bolts is a spare. So, use one bolt to attach your Deeper smart sonar (using two will make the readings less accurate), and keep the other in your tackle box as a spare.

What is the difference between narrow and wide beam?

Deeper smart sonars can scan using both narrow beam and wide beam frequencies. Narrow beam ([email protected]) is used for high accuracy returns of fish, structure, detail and bottom profile. Wide beam ([email protected]) scans a broad area, showing fish, bait fish and bottom structure.

Can Deeper smart sonars work underwater?

Deeper smart sonars are designed to float on the surface of the water, and we don’t recommend submerging the device (it is waterproof up to 1 meter). Of course, it may get submerged briefly if the water is rough, and this shouldn’t affect the performance of the device. It records information for 5 seconds while underwater, then transfers this data once it resurfaces.

Can I use Deeper if its casing is damaged?

We have ruggedized the casing on all Deeper smart sonars to ensure they can withstand tough conditions. Of course, damage to the casing can still occasionally occur. In this case, do not use your device, as this could damage the internal electronic components. You should either contact our support team ([email protected]) or speak to the retailer you brought your product from.

Does my Deeper need a mobile or internet connection to work?

No. Your Deeper smart sonar will work without any mobile or internet connection, so you don’t need to worry if the location you’re fishing has a mobile signal or not. You could be fishing in the Amazon rainforest and your Deeper smart sonar will still work. There are one or two minor functions on the app which require an internet connection, for example weather forecasts.

Do I need a mobile or internet connection for functions that use GPS?

No you don’t. Whether you are using a PRO + (with built-in GPS), a PRO or a 3.0, you can use functions that use GPS such as bathymetric mapping in boat mode and GPS ice hole marking without a phone or internet connection. In the case of the PRO +, it’s built-in GPS functions independently of your phone and connects directly to satellites. The PRO and 3.0 use your phone’s GPS for these functions, but this works even if you don’t have a phone or internet signal. In this situation, the connection to GPS may be a bit slower than if you have a phone signal, but it still works fine.

Do I need a Wi-Fi connection to use my PRO or PRO+?

No, you don’t need a Wi-Fi internet connection or a mobile connection to use your PRO or PRO+, they will work anywhere. The devices themselves are fitted with a Wi-Fi connection which they use to transmit data to your phone or tablet, but this works independently of any networks. All you have to do is to turn on the Wi-Fi on your smartphone or tablet, and connect to the signal from your Deeper.

Will the GPS on my PRO+ work without a mobile or internet connection?

Yes it will. The PRO+ has a built-in GPS receiver that will connect directly to global positioning satellites. Functions that use GPS (like on shore mapping) feature a satellite icon. When the icon is green, it means your unit has a satellite connection.

What should I do if I’m experiencing limited connectivity with my PRO or PRO +?

If you are casting your PRO or PRO+ long distances, it is possible that you will experience connectivity issues. This is because, as the Wi-Fi signal becomes weaker the further away it gets, your phone will automatically start searching for a stronger signal, which may cause disconnection. To stop this, simply turn off Mobile Data, and in the case of iOS devices Wi-Fi Assist, and your phone will stay connected to your smart sonar’s Wi-Fi signal.

What is the difference between internal GPS and smartphone GPS?

The PRO+ is fitted with an internal GPS receiver which works independently of your smartphone. This means your Deeper does not need to be in the same location as your phone when using GPS, which is why you can use it for mapping waters from the shore; just cast it out and start mapping. By contrast, the Fishfinder 3.0 and PRO models do not have internal GPS. This means they use the GPS readings from your phone for functions like bathymetric mapping and GPS ice hole marking. The important point here is that your phone must be in the same location as your deeper unit (or as close as possible). That’s because the data readings from your Deeper will be saved for the location your smartphone is at. So if there is a big difference, the readings won’t be accurate.

What should I do if I am experiencing limited GPS connectivity with my PRO +?

The main thing to remember is that the GPS in your PRO+ unit connects directly to satellites. So, in order to ensure rock solid connectivity, we recommend putting your PRO+ in the water for 1-2 minutes prior to usage to enable it to establish a strong connection. When you are using your PRO+ for bathymetric mapping, make sure the satellite icon is green, showing your PRO+ has established a GPS connection.

How long does the battery last?

Fully charged, the battery is good for 6 hours of usage on the Fishfinder 3.0 and 5.5 hours on the PRO and PRO+. Just be aware in very cold temperatures the battery may run down a bit faster. It takes roughly 2 hours to charge. In sleep mode, the Fishfinder 3.0 can remain for up to two months without charging. The PRO and PRO+ can remain for up to 6 months in sleep mode without charging.

Why do I need to regularly charge my Deeper device?

All Deeper smart sonars are powered by a lithium ion battery, and charging these batteries regularly will extend their life. We recommend charging your Fishfinder 3.0 at least once every 2 months, and your PRO or PRO+ at least once every 6 months.

Can I charge it while it is in the water?

No. To access the micro USB port used for charging your Deeper Smart Sonar you need to remove the water-tight cap. So, charging the device while it is in the water could lead to the electronic components being damaged.

Why does my display keep scrolling across when my Deeper isn’t moving?

Your Deeper unit is constantly scanning and sending data to your phone. The screen display updates every second, with the newest reading on the right – this means the screen is always scrolling across. So, even if your Deeper unit is stationary, your screen display will keep scrolling.

Can I use the Deeper app without a Deeper smart sonar?

Yes, but not all the features will work. The Deeper app is full of handy features for your fishing trips; a solunar calendar, weather forecasts, fishing logs and maps, plus social media sharing and much more. And combined with a Deeper smart sonar, it turns your phone into a high-grade sonar display.

Do Deeper smart sonars work with any other operating systems?

Not yet. Currently, Deeper smart sonars can only be used with iOS and Android devices. Our tech team is constantly working to update the software and systems we use, and monitoring the development of other platforms. If it becomes viable to launch Deeper on other platforms, we will.

What is the vertical flasher?

When your screen display is in basic mode you get a display of the sonar readings your deeper unit is picking up. This display scrolls across your screen. If you select detailed mode, a vertical flasher is added to the right hand side of the display. This shows the exact depth readings underneath your sonar at that exact moment.

How can I tell what size the fish is?

There are a couple of ways fish can be displayed on your screen when using your Deeper Smart Sonar. The default setting is with Fish Icons; here, the sonar will detect which underwater objects are fish and a fish icon will show their location. If you want to see the actual sonar reading, which will show you how big each fish is, then just go to the settings panel on the app (on the left of your screen), choose “Detailed Smart Imaging” and untick “Fish Icons”.

What are Offline Maps and how can I use them?

Offline maps are maps available to download for free through the Deeper app. You can download a huge range of offline maps for the different locations you fish. We recommend doing this before you set off on your trip using your home internet connection as it will be faster. To do this go to settings, choose offline maps from the menu and download the maps for your desired location. Then you can use the bathymetric mapping function, either in boat mode (all models) or onshore GPS mode (PRO+ only), to create detailed contour maps of the site you are fishing. These will be saved directly onto the offline map you downloaded, so you don’t need an internet or mobile connection to use this function.

What are the limitations on history files?

The latest version of the Deeper application has no restrictions on the length of your history files. This means if you are scanning for 4 hours, you can save all four hours. There are also no limits on how many files you can save.

What color modes are available on the Deeper App?

The latest version of the Deeper App features three different colour modes. So, whatever the light and weather conditions, you’ll always be able to easily see the sonar readings on your phone screen.
