What are Bathymetric Maps and Why They Benefit Anglers

Bathymetric maps

Bathymetric maps are underwater topographic maps. Seriously, in plain terms, bathymetry is the measurement of a waterbody’s depth. By measuring the depth of an entire lake, for example, a comprehensive and precise underwater bottom contour map can be created from that data. What this means to anglers? With bathymetric maps, anglers save time. They can quickly locate areas favourable to fish and prepare for fishing trips, better.

In conjunction with the sonar scanning data, they not only see depth but also weeds, vegetation and coverage, enabling them to pinpoint exact holding spots their target species love best. Fish smarter, use bathymetry to your advantage.

  • Map Symbols with Legend

    Map Symbols with Legend

Every mapped waterbody is represented with a blue circle symbol with waterbody name, size and how much you’ve mapped, either full or partial. You will see symbols for the fishing mode used for mapping the lake, e.g. a boat for mapping by boat, a fishing rod for mapping from shore or a snow flake for ice fishing. Additional symbols include start and finish points, mapping paths and unknown size for waterbodies that are exceptionally small like ponds or exceptionally long, like rivers.

  • Depth Scale with GPS Coordinates

The colour coded depth scale allows you to see exact depth measurements in increments of 0.3m (1 ft) on the desktop view, mobile slightly greater. You can click on your lake map and get the GPS coordinates for that exact spot where knowing the depth measurement is essential for your fishing activity.
