Take A Vet Fishing - A Day of Giving Back

Take A Vet Fishing - A Day of Giving Back

We, at Deeper, are proud and honored to collaborate with Take a Vet Fishing.  Taking time to support and honor veterans is a cause we certainly believe in. Please take a moment to read about their mission and purpose, in their words. Thank you.

Our slogan is "A Day of Giving Back" and is the core of our mission. When our brave service men and women return from overseas, as a nation, we have been failing to show these heroes our appreciation. A shockingly high number of service members are returning with injuries and even the soldiers without physical wounds are having a hard time adjusting back into the "real world". These "Heroes" have given so much of themselves for our freedom. Reaching out and offering a "Thank You" with a hand shake, is the very least we can do. At Take a Vet Fishing, we take it a step further. Not only do we show these heroes our gratitude and shake their hand, we hand them a fishing rod and ease their minds back into civilization.

Veterans day

What is Take A Vet Fishing?

It is exactly that! Our organization pairs fisherman and veterans together and sends them out on the water for the morning bite. You do not need a special license or a permit to take a veteran fishing during one of our TAVF events. If you have a boat that is insured and have fishing equipment that you are willing to let a participant borrow onboard, then you are all set to be a TAVF Guide.

Take a Vet Fishing hosts 6 events in the year on a variety of lakes. Our 2019 dates will be available on our website this coming January. We host events in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois. To participate, as a volunteer or a veteran, you will need to register through our website once the event dates are available. We hope to see you there!

Veteran and his catch

Everyone, meet Norm. His first Take a Vet Fishing experience was with us on Lake Minnetonka and let's just say, he was not disappointed. Norm showed up at Lord Fletchers BRIGHT and EARLY, 5:15am to be exact with a launch time of 6am. Yes, he was the first eager fisherman in the parking lot that day.

When Norm signed up for this event, he indicated that he had no preference on what to fish for, as long as he was out on the water, he knew it was going to be a good Sunday morning. Jack Lowry, Norm's Guide for the day, knew where to find the fish.

NORM landed a 39.5" MUSKY! And, if we remember correctly, his smile was just as big! Not only was this his first fishing event with us but this was also his FIRST MUSKY!

A 52-foot launch boat was donated to us for the day to take our veterans fishing and to ride in comfort, bathroom included. It makes our Minnesota Mille Lacs Lake event unique from the rest. This big boat can bring in some big fish and big smiles. THANK YOU HUNTERS POINT!

Fishing veterans

For as long as we can remember, there has been one veteran who is a genuine fixture with Take a Vet Fishing. John Wells is a vet with a heart of gold! He not only served in our nation’s military, but he has continued to serve his fellow veterans through Take a Vet Fishing. If you’ve been to one of our "A Day of Giving Back" on the water events, you’ve probably seen John. You see, on each event, John provides some lucky veteran with a beautifully hand-crafted quilt. John does this in memory of his father. John has been a tireless supporter of Take a Vet Fishing, raising awareness for this organization. If that wasn’t enough, John is a darn good fisherman.

John Wells is a very good man doing some really great work. For all you do John, we thank you and we thank you for your service for our country.

If you would like a way of giving back, please consider volunteering at our fishing events. There are many opportunities to share your services. We’d love for you to participate.
